Better Results in Less Time

The main part of my job as a coach is getting people results. Part of how I do that is with programming and recommendations. But another big part is with feedback from our clients. I can help get results much faster and much better when I hear what’s working and what’s not working.

Inevitably, there are bumps in the road to the results people are looking for. Not everything we try will work perfectly the first time. Things like:

  • Stretching in your home gym before bed
  • Planning your meals for the week
  • Eating more leafy greens.

Things like these are reasonable to try, but they don’t always work for every individual. And when they don’t, people often naturally try to figure out why that’s the case. They’ll say things like “it shouldn’t be that hard to just go downstairs and get in 10 minutes of stretching,” “I don’t know why I can’t get those meals planned,” “I buy the greens at the store but I don’t eat them, what’s wrong with me??”

And here’s my answer (with love and compassion): I don’t care.

Don’t get me wrong; I care very much that what we tried isn’t working. That’s super important information for me to have. But why those things aren’t working takes a lot of time that we don’t need to spend.

We could try to figure that out, of course. We could see what you ate when you were a child, and how your mom told you to clear your plate, and why that makes you think eating greens is a chore, and why that makes it hard to even put greens on your plate now. But even if we are able to crack the code, will it change your behavior? Maybe. I think there’s about a 50% chance. And that’s if we can figure out the reason at all, which might take multiple sessions to do.

But what saves a lot of time and works a lot better is to completely ignore why these things aren’t working.

Should it be easier to stretch in your home gym? Should it be easier to plan your meals? Should it be easier to eat more greens?

Who cares?

It doesn’t matter how it SHOULD be. If it’s not working, then it’s not working.

Instead of agonizing about why that’s the case, let’s just try something else until we find what does work. It’s going to save a ton of time. And when it comes to getting results, the thing that works is the only thing that matters.

And it’s the thing that’s ultimately going to change your life.
