Consistency Beats Perfection

by Michael Plank

I’ve been professionally coaching people for over a decade. You know what works way better than 30 days of perfection?

5 years of “pretty good.”

My (unasked for) advice as you head into your plans for 2025 is this:

Don’t be extreme.

30 days, 6 weeks, 75 days… you can do amazing things in that time. But it probably won’t make a whole lot of difference long term if you don’t carry those habits with you the rest of your life. And if the habits are extreme, it’ll be so miserable to keep at them.

(I can tell you for damn sure that I’m not going to celebrate my birthday next year with kale chips and grilled chicken breast.)

Instead, find something that you enjoy at least a little, find a person or group of people who can keep you on track when you’re not feeling it, make it something you can do year in and year out, and then just never stop.

Tall order? Maybe. But no harder than cutting out every single bit of joy in your life for a month.

And if you need help, just let me know. And if I can’t help you, I think I can probably point you to someone who can.
